Sustainability

Blue Spring State Park is employing several practices to promote sustainability such as:
  • Removing and monitoring invasive species
  • Protecting endangered and threatened species
  • Performing prescribed burns every 15 years
  • Monitoring water levels and maintaining proper chemical balance within the water
  • Working in conjunction with “Friends of Blue Spring” to increase public awareness
  • Promoting concept of “take nothing but photographs, and leave nothing but footprints”
  • Installing boardwalks to minimize habitat damage and discourage visitors from straying out of designated areas

Blue Spring State Park might further promote sustainability by:
  • Increasing funding to hire more employees who can enforce that visitors do not harm the habitat
  • Educating the public to increase awareness of the consequences of damaging habitat
  • Following through with acquiring land north of Blue Spring to create a wilderness corridor to Ocala National Forest
